Total Vocal Eclipse Of The Heart

Mighty me! World humour is alive and well!

Just when I thought the world had resigned to accepting tat for gold, some crafty Yanky cats have sprung a wee gem. I can honestly say I haven’t laughed this much in a while (excluding daily appreciation of my own endless wit). Critique wise, they’ve perfected it. The middle bit with the random dialogue was clearly the hardest part, and they risked delving into classic corny crud, but if this is when it went back in the bag, they pulled it right back out again. If my own voice wasn’t overly angelic I’d be tempted to give this technique a try, but as it stands, I can’t wait for more from this crew. Multi-props America!

Viral Mondays

So let’s see how this roles - monday will guarantee you a post related to the world of viral marketing.

So viral of the week has to be the Auto-Tune News #2.

The ‘auto-tune’ effect has found it’s way in to a lot of mainstream music over the years; making certain ’singer’s careers possible where they really probably shouldn’t. Mainstream Hip-Hop has now been taken over by the auto-tune trend, ‘artists’ like T-Pain, Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne using the technology to great success.

Now the Auto-Tune effect has found a worthy purpose! - Making American Cable news tolerable… Youtube director Schmoyoho has created a masterpiece by combining an upbeat keyboard riff and the words of various CNN and political pundits, including Hillary Clinton. Cutting news reports covering topics from global warming to Iowa’s recent gay marriage referendum, mixed with some green-screening from Schmoyoho to comp himself and his crew in to the newsroom. The genius of ‘doubling up’ with the news reader’s ‘lyrics’ will live long.

Auto-Tune News #1, however, is not quite the same genius - It seems they needed to find their feet to get the goodness out, as the first installment falls short of comedy and seems just a shameless promotion for an actual female singer…sneaky.

So you may be fooled in to thinking that the Auto-Tune News is pure entertainment but, as with most virals, there’s a marketing plan. No need for chronology on the internet, they can keep making new episodes - un-related to the female singer in the first episode, but viewers will always link back to the first one in which they receive all the links they need to see her website etc. Cue traffic!
